US General Urges India to Rethink as Pakistan Gains Support
During a debate on Piers Morgan’s show, retired US Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt criticized India’s response to US President Donald Trump’s trade threats, calling it “arrogance.”
The discussion also featured Indian journalist Barkha Dutt, who later wrote about the exchange in her Hindustan Times column.
Kimmitt warned that India must pay closer attention to Washington’s evolving ties with Islamabad. His remarks came amid wider debates on global alignments, including China’s military parade where Xi Jinping appeared alongside Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.
Barkha Dutt noted that the debate took place on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo with Xi and Putin had already drawn questions. Panelists described the gathering as a convergence of authoritarian leaders.
In her column, Dutt described Trump’s policies as “blatant hypocrisy,” but she was cautious in interpreting China’s support for Pakistan, stressing it was strategic rather than a deep realignment. She added that issues like trade, geopolitics, and security are all connected.
The exchange highlighted Washington’s challenge of balancing relations with both India and Pakistan as the US pursues aggressive trade and security policies.
