Which Hamas Leaders Present During Israeli Strike in Qatar?
Doha: Israel has claimed responsibility for an airstrike in Doha, Qatar, targeting senior leaders of Hamas, including Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, one of the group’s most senior figures.
According to the Israeli military, the strike was aimed at top Hamas officials holding a meeting in the Qatari capital. The military said the target included leaders allegedly involved in the planning of the October 7 attacks and the ongoing war in Gaza.
Hamas sources confirmed that an Israeli airstrike took place while several senior leaders were in session, but they reported that all leaders remained safe. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, was reportedly focused on the U.S. proposal for a Gaza ceasefire.
Arab media earlier reported that al-Hayya had been killed in the bombing, though Hamas later denied this claim, stating that Khaled Meshaal, Zaher Jabarin, Mohammed Darwish, and Mousa Abu Marzouk were also present and survived.
An Israeli official told media that the United States was informed ahead of the Doha strike and provided assistance for the operation.
The attack has triggered widespread concerns over the violation of Qatari sovereignty and its potential impact on ceasefire negotiations. Regional analysts warn that such developments could complicate diplomatic efforts and further escalate tensions in the Middle East.
