UAE Introduces Single-Step Emirates ID Renewal System
UAE Introduces Single-Step Emirates ID Renewal System
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) in the UAE has simplified the process of renewing and replacing Emirates ID cards, reducing it to a single step to enhance convenience and improve user experience.
With this updated system, UAE citizens can now complete the Emirates ID renewal in one step, eliminating the need for multiple procedures.
Emirates ID Validity Period
Under the new rules, the validity of the renewed Emirates ID will depend on the applicant’s age. UAE citizens aged 21 and above will receive cards valid for 10 years, while those under 21 will be issued IDs with a five-year validity period.
The single-step renewal and replacement service will be available across all ICP service channels.
Are Residents Eligible?
While the UAE is home to a large number of expatriates, including many from Pakistan, it remains unclear whether this streamlined service applies to residents or is exclusive to Emirati citizens.
Legal Requirement of Emirates ID
The Emirates ID is mandatory for both citizens and residents, serving as proof of identity. It is widely used for accessing government services, voting in Federal National Council elections, and passing immigration through eGates and smart gates at UAE airports.
Emirates ID Cost Update for Residents
Currently, UAE residents can obtain an Emirates ID valid for two or three years. The cost for a two-year ID ranges between AED 270–310, while a three-year ID costs AED 370–410.
