Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against NYT
US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the New York Times, four of its reporters, and the book publisher Penguin Random House. He is asking for at least $15 billion, accusing them of defamation and libel.
Trump’s lawsuit says the New York Times published articles and an editorial before the 2024 presidential election, calling him unfit to be president. The lawsuit also targets a 2024 book called Lucky Loser, published by Penguin, which talks about Trump’s business and personal life.
Trump’s lawyers say these articles and the book contain false information that has damaged his reputation and business. They claim this has hurt the value of Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) stock and his future money opportunities.
This lawsuit comes after Trump threatened to sue the New York Times over a report about a note related to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in jail in 2019.
Trump shared on his social media platform Truth Social that he is proud to bring the $15 billion lawsuit, accusing the New York Times of lying about him, his family, and political movements like “Make America Great Again” (MAGA).
Earlier this year, Trump also sued the Wall Street Journal for $10 billion over a report about Jeffrey Epstein. And in July, the CBS company Paramount settled a lawsuit with Trump over a TV interview that he said was edited unfairly.
