UK Government Officially Adds State of Palestine To Its Map

22 September, 2025 12:35

For the first time, the UK government has replaced the term “Palestinian Occupied Territories” with “State of Palestine” on its official online maps and various platforms.

This update followed Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s formal announcement of recognizing Palestine, in line with similar moves by Canada and Australia.

According to The Telegraph, once Palestine was acknowledged as an independent state, the Foreign Office revised several of its website pages to reflect the change, including sections on travel advice for Israel and Palestine, lists of overseas offices, and regional maps.

The recognition was announced on Sunday during a press conference in which Prime Minister Starmer stated: “Amid the growing horrors in the Middle East, we are working to preserve the possibility of peace and a two-state solution.”

He added: “Hamas has no future—neither in government nor in the security sector.”

With this step, Britain has joined Canada and Australia as the three G7 nations that now officially recognize Palestine.

The move coincides with the UN General Assembly meeting on Monday, where a Saudi-French-led conference is expected to see more countries, particularly France, declare recognition of the State of Palestine.
