6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Central Philippines, 31 Dead
Manila: A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the central Philippines, including Cebu province, killing at least 31 people and causing widespread panic.
The quake hit a coastal island in central Philippines, forcing residents to flee their homes and rush onto the streets for safety.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers and was followed by at least four aftershocks, each stronger than magnitude 5.
Authorities have warned of possible unusual sea waves and urged residents to stay away from coastal areas as a precaution.
Local officials are currently assessing the full extent of the damage. The regional governor stated that the situation may be more serious than initially expected.
