Afghan Traders Urge Taliban Government to Reopen Trade with Pakistan
Afghan traders have strongly criticized their government over the ongoing closure of trade routes with Pakistan. They warned that the continued blockade at the Torkham border is causing serious economic damage, mainly to the people of Afghanistan.
Rising Public Anger Over Border Closure
In just four days of closure, many Afghan citizens and businessmen have raised their voices, requesting the authorities to reopen trade channels. They claim that political tensions should not affect essential trade and livelihood.
“The situation at Torkham border has not been normal for the last few days. The crossing is closed from both sides,” an Afghan trader said.
Heavy Losses Expected
According to traders, the closure has left nearly 10,000 loaded vehicles stranded, with high risk of goods being wasted or damaged. Perishable items such as fruits, vegetables, and food supplies are at greatest risk.
“The closure of Torkham border is hurting Afghan people more than anyone else,” traders added.
“We request Pakistan, as a neighbour, to reopen the border for trade and humanitarian reasons.”
Appeal to Both Governments
Afghan traders are calling on both Afghan and Pakistani authorities to prioritize economic cooperation over political disputes. They believe reopening the trade route is crucial to prevent further losses and support regional stability.
