China Dismisses Nine Senior Military Officers, Including Two Generals, Over Corruption Charges

18 October, 2025 22:28

Beijing: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, China has dismissed nine senior military officers, including two generals, for alleged involvement in corruption and violations of party discipline, according to international media reports.

Those removed from their posts include General He Weidong, Vice Chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission (CMC) and a key member of the Politburo, making this one of the most significant purges in recent years.

Following the dismissals, only four members remain in the CMC — including President Xi Jinping, who also serves as its Chairman.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Defence, the officers were accused of serious breaches of party discipline and major financial misconduct. Their cases have been referred to a military court for formal trial.

The move reflects China’s “zero-tolerance policy” toward corruption within the armed forces. Under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, Beijing has intensified efforts to “purify” the military system and ensure strict accountability across ranks.

Observers say the latest action demonstrates the Chinese government’s determination to maintain discipline and integrity within its defense institutions amid growing emphasis on loyalty and transparency.
