Trump to Modi: No War with Pakistan
US President Donald Trump has claimed that he helped prevent a major war between Pakistan and India. Speaking at a Diwali event at the White House, Trump said he clearly told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that war with Pakistan should not happen.
Trump said he had a detailed discussion with Modi, covering trade and other important issues. He warned both countries that if they went to war, the U.S. would stop trade with them. Within 24 hours of this warning, both sides agreed to a ceasefire.
“I stopped eight wars during my time, and the conflict between Pakistan and India was the biggest one,” Trump said. “Seven fighter jets were shot down, but I stepped in and prevented a major disaster.”
He also mentioned that India will now reduce its oil purchases from Russia and work on improving trade relations with the U.S.
Trump emphasized that most of the wars he stopped were through trade negotiations. He also said the U.S. will soon have important talks with China and hopes for a fair trade deal.
Talking about tariffs, Trump said they are important for protecting the U.S. economy and national security, especially since China and European countries have placed heavy tariffs on American goods for years.
He ended by saying that both Pakistan and India are nuclear powers, and any war between them would be dangerous not just for the region but for the whole world.
