Sharjah Police announce new traffic rules from November 1
Sharjah Police have announced new lane rules for motorcycles, buses, and heavy vehicles starting November 1 to improve road safety and traffic flow across the emirate.
In coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), police confirmed that specific lanes will now be assigned for each type of vehicle on major and secondary roads.
New lane rules:
-
The far-right lane is for buses and heavy vehicles only.
-
Motorcycles, including delivery bikes, are not allowed to use the far-left fast lane.
-
On four-lane roads, bikes can use the two right-most lanes.
-
On three-lane roads, they can use the middle or right lane.
-
On two-lane roads, they must stay in the right lane.
24/7 monitoring and fines:
Sharjah will use radars and smart cameras to monitor lane use around the clock.
-
Heavy vehicles not using their assigned lanes will face a Dh1,500 fine and 12 traffic points.
-
Drivers disobeying traffic instructions will be fined Dh500.
Police have urged all motorists to follow these lane rules to help reduce traffic violations and accidents.
Same rules as other emirates:
The new rules bring Sharjah in line with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman.
-
Dubai banned delivery riders from fast lanes from November 1.
-
Abu Dhabi allows bikes only in the right lane on high-speed roads and restricts heavy vehicles during rush hours.
-
Ajman requires delivery bikes to use only the two right-most lanes.
Also, heavy vehicles over 65 tonnes remain banned across UAE roads since early 2024.
Goal: safer roads for everyone
Sharjah Police said the plan reflects the UAE’s goal to make roads safer and more organized. With smart monitoring and strict lane rules, authorities aim to cut congestion, prevent accidents, and protect all road users.
