Pro-Palestine Journalist Sami Hamdi Arrested in US Following Israel Lobby Push
A British journalist and political commentator, Sami Hamdi, was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at San Francisco Airport.
Hamdi, a vocal critic of US and Israeli policies, had recently spoken at a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) event in Sacramento and was scheduled to speak in Florida. CAIR condemned the detention as an attack on free speech.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer and a pro-Israel pressure group, RAIR Foundation, were reported to have influenced the action against Hamdi. Supporters say his detention is political retaliation for criticizing Israel.
Since October 7, 2023, over 68,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict in Gaza, with thousands more wounded.
