Iran Urges Immediate End to Cuba Embargo
Iran has called on the United States to end sanctions on Cuba, calling them “unlawful” and harmful to ordinary citizens. Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, spoke at a UN General Assembly meeting, saying the embargo has hurt women, children, and the elderly.
He criticized the US for using sanctions under the pretext of promoting democracy and said they block Cuba’s development and violate basic human rights. Iravani highlighted that most countries at the UN oppose the sanctions and called on the US to change its policy.
The US has imposed an embargo on Cuba since 1958. While former President Joe Biden briefly removed Cuba from the US “state sponsors of terrorism” list, President Donald Trump reinstated it in January.
Iran said it will continue to fight against all unilateral sanctions that harm sovereign nations and called for an end to “coercion, domination, and economic oppression.”
