Trump Attacks Zohran Mamdani: “Sending Funds to a Communist-Run New York Is a Waste of Money”
US President Donald Trump has strongly criticized New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “communist” and saying that sending federal funds to New York would be a waste of money if Mamdani wins.
In an interview with an American TV channel, Trump said that if Mamdani becomes mayor, it would be impossible for the federal government to support New York financially.
Trump compared Mamdani to former mayor Bill de Blasio, saying, “De Blasio was a failed mayor, but Mamdani would be even worse.”
He also indirectly showed support for former governor Andrew Cuomo, saying, “If the choice is between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’ll choose the bad Democrat.”
New York’s mayoral elections are taking place today. The main candidates are Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
According to the latest public polls, Mamdani leads with 44% support, followed by Cuomo with 33%, and Sliwa with 14%.
