Ansarullah Official Condemns UN Security Council for Renewing Yemen Sanctions

16 November, 2025 11:55

A senior member of the Ansarullah movement’s political bureau, Mohammed al-Farah, has strongly criticized the UN Security Council for renewing sanctions on Yemen for another year. The decision was made on Friday, with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from Russia and China.

In a post on X, al-Farah said that Sana’a will respond to any party that harms Yemen’s national interests or tries to undermine the country’s sovereignty. He stressed that Yemenis will protect their rights, religion, and dignity by all legitimate means.

Al-Farah accused the Security Council of applying “the worst double standards,” saying it ignored what he called genocidal crimes in Gaza while supporting Israel. He said the Council is now covering up the siege and aggression against Yemen without any moral or legal justification.

He added that while Gaza has faced heavy bombardment with Western weapons, Yemen has been under siege for 10 years. According to him, the Council has become an instrument of Western interests, defining human rights based on Western preferences and advancing U.S. policies at the expense of others.

Al-Farah also accused some international organizations in Yemen of acting as espionage tools for Israel under the guise of humanitarian work, saying this shows “how Zionists exploit UN institutions.”

He praised Russia and China for abstaining from the vote, calling their position a sign of moral awareness and resistance to U.S. policies that use sanctions to pressure nations.

The Ansarullah official argued that Western states are openly supporting Israel with weapons and funds, while politically covering up its actions. He said the renewed sanctions aim to serve Israeli interests and punish the Yemeni people for their independence and their solidarity with Gaza.

The renewed UN resolution keeps targeted financial and travel sanctions on designated Yemeni individuals in place until November 14, 2026.

Yemen has been in conflict since 2014, which worsened when a Saudi-led coalition launched a military campaign in 2015. The war has killed tens of thousands, and the UN warns that around 14 million Yemenis are at risk of starvation.
