Trump Confirms Meeting Request From New York Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani
Washington: Donald Trump , the US president, has stated that the newly elected mayor of New York City (NYC) Zohran Mamdani has requested to for a meeting in Washington after his recent election triumph.
Trump told reporters, “The Mayor of New York would like to meet with us, and we’ll work something out. He’d like to come to Washington and meet, and we’ll work something out.”
Mamdani made history by becoming New York’s first Muslim mayor and the youngest mayor in more than 100 years.
Despite confirming the meeting request, Trump has been strongly critical of Mamdani. He previously called the mayor-elect a “communist” and also threatened to cut federal funding to New York City during his administration.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “I think he should be very nice to me. I’m the one that has to approve a lot of things coming to him.” He added that Mamdani was “off to a bad start.”
Trump said that cooperation with the federal government is important if Mamdani wants to succeed as mayor.
“He has to be a little bit respectful of Washington, because if he’s not, he doesn’t have a chance of succeeding,” Trump said.
