UNIFIL: Israel Violated Lebanon’s Airspace Over 7,300 Times Since Ceasefire
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) spokesperson Danny Goffrey said that UN peacekeeping forces in South Lebanon have documented over 7,300 Lebanese airspace violations by “Israel” since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in November 2024, along with thousands of military exercises north of the Blue Line.
The UNIFIL spokesperson talking to RIA Novosti on Wednesday has revealed that the repeated Israeli incursions constitute a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, governing the rules of engagement and operations in Southern Lebanon after the 2006 war.
Danny Goffrey, in addition to it, said that since November 27, 2024, peacekeepers have also recorded more than 2,400 operational exercises by Israeli forces north of the Blue Line, a border demarcated by the UN and not officially recognized by Lebanon as an international boundary.
However, in major progress, UNIFIL has conducted a geographic survey in October of a strong wall being built by the forces of Israel southwest of the town of Yaroun. Goffrey further added that the survey confirmed that the wall passed the Blue Line and therefore was a clear breach of Resolution 1701.
It’s worth noticing that Resolution 1701 was reached following the 2006 Israeli aggression on Lebanon. The resolution calls for the full cessation of brutalities and the Lebanese Army to Southern Lebanon.
Furthermore, UN peacekeepersnoted that another obstacle was constructed in November, this time in Yaroun’s southeast. The UNIFIL spokesperson confirmed that this wall as well crossed the Blue Line, stating that UNIFIL will officially notify Israel of breaching the agreement.
Concluding the press, he urged the responsible Israeli authorities to refrain from hostile actions or any aggressions that potentially threaten UN peace mongers operating within their mandate region.
