Israel Confirms Ban on 37 NGOs Operating in Gaza

02 January, 2026 09:38

Israel has confirmed that it will ban 37 international humanitarian organisations from operating in Gaza after they failed to meet new security and transparency requirements set by Israeli authorities.

According to Israeli officials, the affected NGOs did not comply with a deadline to provide detailed information about their Palestinian staff. As a result, these organisations have been ordered to halt their activities in Gaza by March 1.

NGOs Ordered to Stop Aid Operations

The banned organisations include several international humanitarian agencies involved in delivering food, medical supplies, and emergency assistance in Gaza. Israeli authorities said the decision was based on security concerns and a lack of transparency.

Officials added that all organisations operating in Gaza must meet strict standards to continue their work.

UN Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

The United Nations has warned that the ban could further worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has already been severely affected by months of conflict.

UN officials said humanitarian access is critical to prevent shortages of food, medicine, and basic services for civilians living in the war-ravaged territory.

NGOs Raise Legal and Ethical Concerns

Several of the affected NGOs have criticised the decision. They argue that the new requirements violate international humanitarian law and threaten the independence of aid organisations.

Some groups said sharing sensitive staff information could put local workers at serious risk and undermine neutral humanitarian work.

International Reaction Continues

The decision has triggered concern among international aid groups and human rights organisations. Many have urged Israel to reconsider the ban and allow humanitarian agencies to continue their life-saving work in Gaza.

Despite the international outcry, Israeli authorities have said the decision will remain in place unless the organisations meet the required conditions.
