Germany Sends Back Dozens of Afghan Refugees Involved in Crimes

06 January, 2026 13:56

The Afghan Taliban regime has increasingly been characterized as a global center for extremism and terrorism. As a result, many countries are expressing deep concern regarding the involvement of certain Afghan refugees in international unrest and violent activities. Because some individuals have been found to have deep links with terrorist organizations, host nations across the globe have significantly accelerated their deportation measures. Both international and Afghan media outlets have highlighted these trends, documenting the criminal activities associated with specific groups and the subsequent government crackdowns.

According to reports from Aryana News, Germany is currently implementing a strict immigration policy focused on maintaining national security. In 2025, German authorities deported 83 Afghan refugees who were involved in serious crimes, including drug smuggling and other illegal acts. Data from the German Foreign Nationals Registration Center indicates that approximately 11,888 registered Afghan refugees were issued orders to leave the country last year. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrandt has described the return of refugees involved in criminal activity as inevitable, while the Christian Social Union party has called for the immediate and widespread deportation of those categorized as security threats.

Deportation operations have intensified in other major transit countries as well, most notably in Turkey. Tolo News reports that Turkish authorities recently arrested 32 individuals during a crackdown on the illegal transportation of refugees, specifically targeting those attempting to reach Europe by hiding in tankers. According to the Turkish Immigration Authority, 42,000 undocumented Afghan refugees were arrested in 2025 alone. These enforcement actions reflect a broader international trend of tightening borders in response to criminal activity and illegal migration.

Furthermore, the Trump administration has previously imposed restrictions on immigration and Special Immigrant Visa holders due to concerns over potential terrorist acts. The rise of extremism under the Afghan Taliban regime, combined with the violent activities of specific refugee elements, is now viewed as a serious security threat to the region. This situation continues to pose significant challenges for neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, as they navigate the security implications of regional instability.
