Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: Life After Archie and Lilibet
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s parenthood journey highlights the transformation they have experienced as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in recent royal appearances.
Meghan and Prince Harry have been married for the past six years, but people remain eager to learn about their parenting journey and how they are striving to provide an independent life for their children, Prince Archie and Lilibet. Their move to California in 2020, after stepping back from royal duties, marked a significant shift in their family life.
Looking ahead to optimistic parenting, Meghan Markle, on Wednesday, January 7, joined an event for Oprah’s book launch, where the couple focused on the impact of excessive screen time on children. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in a video call with Jonathan Haidt and Catherine Price, authors of The Amazing Generation, a book examining the effects of smartphone overuse on today’s youth. During the discussion, Meghan emphasized the importance of real-world connections in shaping both her life and her children’s lives.

“You were saying, you cannot replace the feeling of a deep, guttural belly laugh. An emoji laugh is not the same physiological response that we need, that our kids need,” Meghan said.
The As Ever founder added, “What I love is that the more we encourage our children to do this, we mimic those same behaviours. We also start to play, and we also start to be more present.”
The couple highlighted that their approach is based on practical, day-to-day family experiences rather than just theoretical ideas. Harry praised the book authors’ analysis, calling it “incredibly valuable,” and congratulated them on addressing a critical topic that supports today’s parents.
Harry said, “Obviously, a huge congratulations to you and the outcome of your research, which has created a parent-led movement, which is astonishing and much needed.”
Meghan also reflected that she and Harry are “proud to be a part” of this conversation about overusing digital devices. Their work, which continues through their Archewell Philanthropies—founded shortly after their royal exit in 2020—focuses on meaningful transformation not just for others, but also for their children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.
Their initiatives include The Parents’ Network and The Lost Screen Memorial, launched in 2025 to honor children affected by online harms.
