Iran Signals Tough Response to Foreign-Linked Unrest

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), stated that the judiciary and security services are prepared to react “in the strongest manner” to foreign-connected individuals engaged in coordinated attacks and armed violence against the Iranian people.
Warnings Against Foreign Interference
In a televised interview on Friday, Larijani noted that while security forces have been instructed to exercise extreme caution to protect the population, any groups entering the country with weapons or the intent to meddle in Iran’s domestic affairs will be dealt with harshly.
The official remarked that Iran’s enemies are now targeting the specific factors that have historically bolstered the country’s resilience. He urged the populace to maintain the same level of alertness displayed during past conflicts involving the Israeli regime and the United States.

Larijani pointed out that riotous elements have targeted symbols of Iran’s religious and national identity. This includes the burning of the Islamic Republic’s flag and attempts to deface statues of national icons, such as General Qassem Soleimani—Iran’s top anti-terror commander assassinated by the US in 2020.
He cited instances of the Holy Qur’an being burned and mosques being attacked, stating, “They want to break the national pride.” He characterized these actions as a deliberate attempt to weaken the country’s core sources of power.

Claims that the violence was motivated by economic grievances were rejected by the official. He pointed out that activities such as looting and burning stores indicate a hidden agenda. “Someone who has economic problems does not go and loot a store,” Larijani stated, noting that such acts disrupt public services and reveal motivations unrelated to economic reform.
Evidence of Organized Violence
Authorities have reportedly discovered cases involving G3 assault rifles, handguns, and other weapons, which Larijani argued demonstrates pre-planned organization and strategies for weapon distribution. He added that attempts to seize military and law enforcement facilities were intended to incite domestic strife and pave the way for foreign intervention—attempts that have failed due to the readiness of security forces.
Alignment with the Leadership
Larijani’s comments align with recent statements by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who reiterated that the Islamic Republic will not tolerate vandalism or unrest supported by outside forces.
Larijani connected the sabotage to previous remarks by Israeli officials suggesting a tactic of employing individuals within Iran to fight the Islamic Republic rather than using direct military aggression. He concluded by confirming that security forces have identified the ringleaders of the unrest, with several already in custody.
