Global Partners Lose Trust in Modi’s Pretense-Driven Diplomacy
The Modi government’s foreign policy has come under scrutiny, with critics arguing that a reliance on pretense and a refusal to compromise have been exposed. Heavy US tariffs and the failure to secure a trade deal have reportedly brought segments of the Indian economy to a critical state.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently attributed the failure of the trade pact to Prime Minister Modi’s perceived “stubbornness.” Lutnick revealed that despite the deal being nearly finalized, Modi appeared hesitant and did not personally call US President Donald Trump to close the agreement. Consequently, the US moved forward with trade deals with Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam instead of India.
Furthermore, reports citing the Indian newspaper The Hindu suggest that President Trump has used harsh rhetoric, reportedly characterizing the Indian economy as “dead” due to its high tariffs and trade barriers.
Economic experts warn that the Indian public is now bearing the brunt of these diplomatic setbacks, attributing the impasse to strategic miscalculations and a breakdown in high-level communication.
