King Charles Faces Fallout from Prince Andrew Scandal

12 January, 2026 18:17

Several important political events are lined up for King Charles at Buckingham Palace, expected to bolster his standing on the global stage, despite the royal family’s obligation to remain neutral in both domestic and international politics.

The White House is reportedly set to extend an official invitation to King Charles and Queen Camilla for a State Visit, with preparations already underway for them to attend the 250th anniversary celebrations in April. The UK government is hopeful the visit proceeds smoothly, as several major trade deals are believed to hinge on the success of the trip.

Tensions within the Palace remain high, however, as the ongoing furore surrounding former Prince Andrew continues to cast a shadow over the royals, with further revelations yet to emerge, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

The monarch has banished his disgraced brother from the royal fold, stripping him of all royal titles, including the Prince style and honours, and removing him from Royal Lodge following public uproar. Andrew has been accused of sexual abuse, illicit relations with minors through his association with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, and involvement in shady business dealings.

The Epstein files remain under investigation, with a redacted version released to the public. These revelations have been a persistent headache for royal aides, dominating headlines and overshadowing the monarchy’s official work. Bond believes this controversy could potentially disrupt the upcoming US state visit.

“I don’t imagine the Epstein scandal will be too much of an issue on any visit to the United States,” Bond told The Mirror, adding, “unless there are further revelations which coincide with the visit.”

She added, “These things are all about diplomacy, and every care will be taken to avoid anything controversial.”

Meanwhile, the Palace is carefully avoiding any controversy surrounding Prince Andrew, who is expected to vacate the Royal Lodge before Easter.

“It would probably be easier for the rest of the royal family if Andrew disappeared to somewhere like the Middle East – especially as the Epstein revelations continue to drip their poison,” Bond said. “But I think they feel they have done all they can to distance themselves from Andrew and the problem.”
