Türkiye Opposes Any Military Action Against Iran, Says Foreign Minister
Türkiye has said it strongly opposes any form of military intervention against Iran, urging Tehran to resolve its internal and international issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
Speaking to journalists in Istanbul on Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Iran should address its domestic challenges on its own, without foreign involvement.
Call for Diplomacy, Not Force
Fidan said the situation surrounding Iran is not only domestic but also linked to international relations. He noted that Iran remains under international sanctions, which have contributed to economic pressure and public hardship.
He stressed that Türkiye has encouraged Iranian officials to improve relations with neighbouring countries and to pursue diplomatic solutions, especially on the nuclear issue.
“Iran should use every diplomatic opportunity to resolve global nuclear concerns,” Fidan said. “This would help remove structural problems that are causing economic difficulties.”
Sanctions and Economic Pressure
The Turkish foreign minister said international isolation limits Iran’s access to economic services and opportunities. According to him, these restrictions have had a direct impact on daily life for ordinary citizens.
He described Iranian society as large, educated and socially active, adding that economic hardship often gets misinterpreted as ideological opposition to the government.
“When people are denied opportunities, problems naturally emerge,” Fidan said, calling the situation a “grey area” rather than a clear political uprising.
Warning Against Foreign Intervention
Fidan warned that economic distress should not be used as a justification for foreign interference. He said Türkiye does not want to see outside powers exploiting Iran’s internal challenges.
He also commented on the United States’ position, saying that so far there has been no strong indication that Washington plans to deploy ground forces against Iran.
“We do not want to see any intervention,” he said, adding that regional stability depends on restraint and dialogue.
