Duchess Sophie Assures Waiting Fan While Exiting Key Meeting. She had a charming moment with a royal fan while leaving Westminster following an important engagement on Saturday.

The Duchess of Edinburgh beamed when a fan outside the venue called out to present her with flowers. Prince Edward’s wife was waving to the crowd when she noticed one fan requesting her attention.

Sophie politely signaled her security team aside and hurried to the fan, wishing them a “Happy New Year.” The 60-year-old royal promptly responded, “Same to you,” adding, “Thank you so much.”

“You have to put them in some sweet water,” the fan told her while handing over what appeared to be a bouquet of white roses. Sophie promised the fan, “I will do, thank you.”

“That was wonderful,” the thrilled fan said as Sophie got into her car, adding that although the security guard appeared “irritated,” everything went smoothly with the Duchess.

Sophie, often called King Charles’s secret weapon, was present at the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, held at the historic Methodist Central Hall in Westminster.

She wore a flowing scarlet dress paired with tan high heels, radiating elegance and grace for the formal occasion.

The event was a significant gathering where Sophie interacted with local schoolchildren, reflecting on loss, sacrifice, and the consequences when peace breaks down. She also met António Guterres and the President of the General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, along with ministers, diplomats, faith leaders, students, and members of the public.
