Trump, Netanyahu Orchestrated Iran Riots: Hezbollah Chief

18 January, 2026 15:05

The secretary general of the Hezbollah resistance movement in Lebanon has praised Iran as the stronghold of freedom and resistance, claiming that the recent riots were planned by Israel and the United States to destabilize the nation.

In a televised speech from Beirut on the auspicious Eid al-Mab’ath, the day God selected Muhammad (PBUH) as His last prophet to propagate Islam, Sheikh Naim Qassem stated, “[US President Donald] Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu incited rioters in Iran with intent to overthrow the [Islamic] establishment and change the equation there in a way that would best benefit them and serve their interests.”

The US president and Netanyahu, he said, “were unable to achieve their latest scheme in Iran, as the noble Iranian nation poured into the streets of cities across the country in millions.”

Sheikh Qassem stressed that the large-scale pro-establishment rallies in Iran “showed the real public desire and demands,” stating that dozens of subversive forces cannot be compared to demonstrations with millions of participants.

The Hezbollah commander went on to say that after decades of sanctions and the so-called maximum pressure campaign, Washington recognized it could not damage the Islamic Republic and turned to riots and acts of terrorism in Iran.

The United States “does not want a free system or people who can govern their state of affairs by themselves,” according to Sheikh Qassem. Instead, it encourages Israel’s expansionism in the region and aims to influence nations and their decisions.

He underlined that the US objective of toppling the Islamic Republic was prevented by the Iranian people’s resistance, the astute leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, and the actions of the government and security forces.

Hezbollah maintains that “Iran is steadfast and strong, and will remain a fortress of resistance, independence, freedom, and inspiration for the oppressed,” Sheikh Qassem emphasized.
