US Records Historic First as Muslim Woman Ghazala Hashmi Takes Oath of Office on the Quran
New history has been made in America, with the first Muslim female lieutenant governor, Ghazala Hashmi, taking the oath of office on the Holy Quran.
For the first time in the state’s history, female leader Abigail also assumed the office of governor.
This was the first time in Virginia history that a Black Jay Jones took the office of attorney general, former Congresswoman Abigail Spain-Berger became governor, and Ghazala Hashmi took the oath of office on the Holy Quran as lieutenant governor.
Ghazala Hashmi is also the first female deputy governor of the state. An interfaith prayer breakfast was also organized on the occasion of the oath-taking, in which Imam Sharif led prayers.
Senator Saddam Azlan Saleem and Senator Kanaan were also present on the occasion, while Adams Scouting America and Girl Scouts participated in the parade on the occasion, led by Rizwan Jaka, Ahsanullah, Bethany Rashid, and others.
On this occasion, Rizwan Jaka expressed hope that unity and diversity would be promoted in the state.
Mansoor Qureshi, Chair of the State Governor’s Asian American Advisory Board, expressed his expectation on this occasion that not only the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, but the entire Cabinet would serve the people of Virginia, especially the South Asian community, without discrimination.
