Pakistan’s Diplomatic Triumph in Washington Lauded by International Journal
Pakistan has achieved a remarkable diplomatic success in the United States, earning praise from the international journal The Diplomat.
According to The Diplomat, “Pakistan has demonstrated strategic acumen and effective diplomacy, giving a new direction to its relations with the United States, which is being recognized globally.” The report highlights that Pakistan successfully positioned itself as an indispensable and reliable partner in Washington through strong diplomatic engagement.
The journal noted that during the May 2025 Pakistan-India tensions, India rejected claims of U.S. mediation. However, Pakistan turned the crisis into a diplomatic opportunity, appreciating U.S. President Donald Trump’s mediation role. This approach significantly improved Pakistan-U.S. relations.
Following the conflict, President Trump invited the Pakistani Army Chief to the White House, and in September 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with the Army Chief also visited Washington. The Diplomat highlighted that discussions during these meetings extended beyond security to cover trade and investment opportunities.
In contrast, India, once considered a close U.S. ally, is facing diplomatic isolation. Its strained ties with the U.S. resulted in the denial of hosting the Quad Summit, cancellation of a presidential visit, and failure to secure trade relief, with the U.S. imposing a 50% tariff on Indian imports.
The report further stated that Pakistan’s counterterrorism cooperation with the U.S. has been restored, revitalizing a key pillar of bilateral relations. The U.S. has also listed groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army and Majid Brigade as terrorist organizations, endorsing Pakistan’s stance.
Moreover, in January 2026, Pakistan emphasized renewing diplomatic ties with China, reinforcing its image as a balanced, independent, and multilateral foreign policy actor.
Overall, The Diplomat concluded that Pakistan’s wise diplomacy not only converted regional crises to its advantage but also reasserted its importance in Washington, while India faces mounting diplomatic and trade challenges.
