Iran’s Drone Arsenal Poses Growing Threat to US Navy: Defense Experts
According to Fox News, a simultaneous, large-scale attack by Iranian combat drones poses a serious threat to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. This analysis, citing defense experts and highlighting the “weaknesses of the US Navy,” suggests that Iran could launch drones in a coordinated manner to disable conventional defense systems through saturation attacks.
If hundreds of drones are launched within a short window, it is almost certain that some will breach a ship’s defenses. Iran’s primary strength lies in its low-cost, high-volume drone systems—specifically suicide drones designed to explode upon impact. Modern defense systems are often not equipped to handle such a relentless barrage, making American ships “attractive targets.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli outlet Ynet reported that a single Iranian missile destroyed 27 buildings in the city of Bat Yam. Commentator Menashe Amir (often cited in regional media) noted Iran’s capabilities demonstrated during recent conflicts, stating that Iran has the power to “set the Middle East on fire,” close the Strait of Hormuz, and target US bases with undeniable damage.
An analysis by the Hebrew website Srugim states that Iran has issued direct threats to Israel in response to US maneuvers, warning that “the response will be harsher and more painful than before.” The report claims significant military equipment has arrived in Iran from China, with missile launcher movements observed in central Iran. This suggests a growing perception within the Islamic Republic that a US attack may be imminent.
Iran recently released footage from spy drones flying over the Persian Gulf, accompanied by the warning, “WhateverA you sow, you will reap.” Furthermore, Iranian-aligned groups in Iraq and Yemen have threatened “severe and painful blows” against Israel and the US should Iran be targeted.
Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, former US Assistant Secretary of State, acknowledged that US bases remain vulnerable to Iran’s missile capabilities. However, The Jerusalem Post suggests a different motive: the deployment of US forces in the Middle East is likely intended to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on Iran rather than signal a direct military strike.
