Tommaso Cioni Ruled Out as Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnapper After FBI Shares Suspect Description

Where Is Dominic Evans Now? Latest Updates on Tommaso Cioni’s Ex-Bandmate Amid FBI Investigation in Arizona
The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, took a major turn as the FBI released new details about the masked kidnapper in her Tucson, Arizona disappearance case. The FBI provided a clear physical description of the suspect, which has led authorities and the public to rule out Nancy’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, as the abductor.
The FBI Phoenix office revealed that the suspect is a male roughly 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build. He was seen carrying a black 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack and wearing a ski mask, gloves, and a zip-up jacket. Surveillance footage also suggested the masked individual had a handgun holstered at his waist.
Previously, speculation on social media had linked Tommaso Cioni to the abduction. He and his wife Annie Guthrie were among the last people to see Nancy on the night of January 31, 2026. Tommaso reportedly drove Nancy home from a family dinner and confirmed she was safe at about 9:30 p.m. Some posts noted similarities between the masked person and Tommaso, such as dark facial hair and shoulder posture.
After the FBI released the suspect’s height and build, investigative journalists and social media users began to doubt Cioni’s involvement. @JRLINVESTIGATES, an X (formerly Twitter) journalist, highlighted that Tommaso is much taller than the 5’9”-5’10” description, causing many to update their opinions. While the public now largely rules him out as the masked kidnapper, some still speculate he may have had knowledge of the crime.
The case remains active. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department emphasize that no one has been named as a confirmed suspect. Investigators continue to seek tips from the public and have urged anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to come forward.
Savannah Guthrie’s family has expressed gratitude for public support but requested privacy as the investigation continues. The new FBI description provides the clearest lead yet in the search for Nancy Guthrie, offering hope for progress in the case.
