Nancy Guthrie Missing Case: Sheriff Says ‘A Lot of Police Activity’ as Search Intensifies

Viral Claims of Body Found in Pima County Resembling Nancy Guthrie Debunked
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for more than two weeks as her abduction case enters its third week, according to authorities in Arizona.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Tucson. She was officially reported missing on Sunday, February 1, 2026, triggering a large-scale investigation.
As concern grows over her health and safety, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has increased the reward for information leading to her recovery to USD 100,000. Authorities say the case remains active and urgent.
Chris Nanos, Sheriff of Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said police activity in the community will increase as new leads are investigated. Speaking to Fox News, he explained that officers will move from command centers into the field as information develops, which could lead to search warrants connected to the case.
Nancy Guthrie’s family continues to appeal for prayers and support. Savannah Guthrie recently shared an emotional message on Instagram, thanking people for standing with her family and asking for continued prayers for her mother’s safe return.
Investigators have not ruled out any suspects. During a press conference on February 9, 2026, Sheriff Nanos said no individual has been cleared so far. Media reports have mentioned Nancy’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, as a person of interest, though no formal charges have been filed.
The FBI has released surveillance images of a masked individual seen outside Nancy Guthrie’s home on the night of her disappearance. The suspect is described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, and was carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker backpack.
Physical evidence, including a glove and DNA samples found near the home, has been sent to the FBI crime laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, for further analysis.
Authorities also revealed that the suspect appeared to tamper with the security camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department said they worked with private-sector partners to recover damaged or inaccessible surveillance footage, which later revealed new images of the armed individual.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately. The case has drawn national attention, with many hoping for Nancy Guthrie’s safe recovery.
