Iran to Washington: War Failed, No More Sanctions—Respect Might Work
The moment has come for the United States to drop its “fruitless” sanctions and war policies against Iran, according to a senior Iranian official, who calls for sincere respect for negotiation as the only feasible course of action.
In a speech to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi stated, “Iran’s enemies may start a war, but they will not be able to determine the end.”
“You have tried sanctions and war in relation to Iran and got nowhere. Now it is time to experience diplomacy and respect,” he stated.
He asserted that Iranians will adamantly oppose any military or political plot against the Islamic Republic and will protect their country, but they do not desire to attack other nations.
According to Gharibabadi, the effects of war “will engulf the region” rather than just the parties involved.
Since early January, US President Donald Trump has threatened military action against Iran on multiple occasions after publicly endorsing riots with foreign connections.
Since then, Trump has threatened to launch strikes if Tehran rejects a deal on US terms and authorized a major military buildup in the area waters close to Iran.
Although Iranian officials have reaffirmed their willingness to reach a just solution about the nation’s nuclear program, they have issued a warning that even a small attack would result in a severe reaction.
In other parts of his speech, Gharibabadi claimed that during the 12-day battle against Iran in June 2025, which claimed the lives of over 1,060 Iranians and injured almost 6,000 more, the so-called human rights defenders backed the US and the Israeli government.
“They did not even allow the UN Security Council and the Human Rights Council to condemn the aggression.”
According to Gharibabadi, Iran’s adversaries, who lost the June battle badly, tried to prepare for a new military campaign by causing instability in the nation and converting nonviolent economic demonstrations into violent riots.
The terrorists were denounced by the Iranian official for their Daesh-style actions, which led to 2,427 civilians being killed.
According to Gharibabadi, people who value human dignity the least are abusing human rights for personal gain.
According to the Iranian deputy foreign minister, the United States and Israel, who were the primary causes of the turmoil in January, ought to answer for crimes against humanity.
