23 February, 2026 20:18

The Kuwait government has announced a two-day public holiday to celebrate its 65th National Day and 35th Independence Day.

The decision was made in a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. All government offices, schools, and public departments will remain closed on Wednesday, February 25, and Thursday, February 26.

Since Kuwait already has a two-day weekend on Friday and Saturday, citizens will enjoy a total of four days off in a row. Work will resume on Sunday, March 1.

This year’s celebrations are special, marking 65 years of National Day and 35 years of Independence, reflecting Kuwait’s growth and sovereignty.

Kuwait National Day, on February 25, commemorates the country’s independence and the ascension of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah to the throne in 1950. It is a day of pride, with citizens celebrating Kuwait’s history, culture, and achievements.

Festivities include parades, fireworks, and public events, bringing people together to honor the nation’s progress and highlight Kuwait’s role as a modern and dynamic country in the Gulf region.
