King Charles Joined by Royal Family for Commonwealth Day

On Monday, 9 March, His Majesty, The King Charles III , Head of the Commonwealth, and Her Majesty The Queen Camilla , along with ill be joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales, and members of other Royal Family are expected once again to join UK and Commonwealth dignitaries diplomatic, representatives, members of the Commonwealth community and UK schoolchildren at the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey.

​This annual event, held at Westminster Abbey, celebrates the unity, diversity, and linkages of the modern Commonwealth and seeks to foster greater understanding of the Commonwealth’s achievements and role, particularly amongst its young people among 1,800 guests at the annual event. 

The Service will also include an address from Royal Commonwealth Society ambassador Geri Halliwell-Horner, a reflection from Oti Mabuse and a poem from Selina Tusitala Marsh, the inaugural Commonwealth Poet Laureate.

As head of the Commonwealth, Charles issues an annual message to the 56 member-nations which will hold their biennial Commonwealth meeting this year during the first week of November in the capital of Antigua and Barbuda.

Inspired by the meeting’s theme – accelerating partnerships and investment for a prosperous commonwealth – the service will celebrate collaboration as the defining strength of the modern family of nations.

The service will feature milestone inventive moments, as well as the world opening of the Commonwealth Work, composed by Rekesh Chauhan, and a personalized dance collaboration between the Royal Ballet School and Sapnay Entertainments, union traditional ballet and Bollywood in a powerful expression of cross-cultural partnership.

Other performers include a Scottish ceilidh band, the Melodians Steel Orchestra and further special reflections and readings from guests.
