Iran blasts US-Israeli use of autonomous killer systems against civilians as 'war crime'
Geneva – March 2026: Iran has strongly condemned the alleged use of autonomous killer systems by the United States and Israel, calling it a serious war crime and a clear violation of international law.
Iran’s representative to international organizations in Geneva, Ali Bahraini, raised the issue during a global meeting on lethal autonomous weapons. He said that using advanced military drones and automated weapons against civilians cannot be justified under international rules.
Iran Raises Issue at Geneva Weapons Summit
Speaking at the summit of the Group of Governmental Experts on Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems, Bahraini said the use of such technology against non-military targets is extremely dangerous.
The meeting was held in Geneva, where international experts and diplomats gathered to discuss the future regulation of autonomous weapons.
Bahraini warned that these systems can operate without direct human control, which increases the risk of deadly mistakes and civilian casualties.
Iran Accuses US and Israel of Drone Attacks
According to the Iranian diplomat, the United States and Israel have used drones such as the MQ-9 Reaper and the LUCAS drone in operations targeting locations inside Iran.
He claimed these attacks were carried out against unarmed civilians and non-military areas.
Bahraini said the use of such autonomous or semi-autonomous systems in populated areas violates global humanitarian laws and international war conventions.
Civilian Casualties Highlighted by Iran
The Iranian official also referred to a tragic incident in the southern Iranian city of Minab.
He said that 160 schoolgirls were killed during an attack, describing it as one of the most shocking examples of the damage caused by the ongoing conflict.
According to him, the incident shows the dangerous consequences of using advanced autonomous weapons in military operations.
Iran Calls for UN Action
Bahraini urged the international community to take the issue seriously.
He called on the United Nations, António Guterres, and the United Nations Security Council to investigate the alleged attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
He warned that silence from global institutions could encourage further violations of international law.
Conflict Escalates in the Region
Iran says the current conflict began when the United States and Israel launched military attacks against Iranian targets.
The situation quickly escalated across the region, leading to growing tensions and military exchanges.
Iranian officials say the country responded by launching missile and drone strikes on American bases across West Asia and strategic positions in Israeli-controlled territories.
The conflict has increased fears of wider instability in the Middle East and raised concerns about the humanitarian impact of modern warfare.
