Iranian Khayber Missiles Hit Tel Aviv During Massive Drone and Missile Strike
March 6, 2026 – Iran’s military announced that it launched a new large-scale attack early Friday as part of its ongoing military campaign against Israel. Officials said the operation included drones and advanced missiles targeting the city of Tel Aviv.
According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps aerospace division, the strike was the 21st wave of attacks carried out under Operation True Promise 4.
Iranian officials said the attack involved swarms of suicide drones and long-range missiles, including the Khayber missile, which reportedly carried cluster-style warheads designed to spread multiple smaller explosives over the target area.
Coordinated Strike Targets Tel Aviv
The operation was reportedly codenamed “Ya Mu’izz al-Mu’minin.” Iranian sources said the goal of the strike was to overwhelm Israel’s layered air defense systems through a coordinated wave of drones and missiles.
Reports and videos circulating online showed explosions in parts of Tel Aviv. Witnesses described loud blasts and rising smoke from several areas of the city.
International media outlets also reported damage to buildings in central districts of Tel Aviv following the attack.
Missiles Used Sub-Munition Tactic
According to Iranian sources, the Khayber missiles used in the strike reportedly released multiple smaller warheads as they approached their targets.
Military analysts say such tactics are designed to make interception more difficult. Each missile can separate into many smaller high-speed projectiles, increasing the chance that some will reach their target.
Iranian officials claimed this method allowed the missiles to bypass parts of Israel’s missile defense network.
Israeli Air Defense Systems Activated
Israel relies on several layers of missile defense systems, including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling, which are designed to intercept rockets and ballistic missiles.
However, Iranian media claimed that the large number of incoming drones and missiles created a saturation effect.
Explosions were reported across several areas, and rocket trails were seen in the sky as far north as Netanya, according to international reports.
Hundreds of Missiles and Drones Used in Campaign
Earlier, Ibrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the operation has been ongoing for several days.
He claimed that Iran has launched more than 2,000 drones and 600 missiles in about 20 waves of attacks since the campaign began.
The conflict continues to raise concerns about further escalation in the region as both sides prepare for additional military actions.
