Modi’s Foreign Policy Faces Criticism Amid Rising Middle East War

NEW DELHI, March 9, 2026: India’s foreign policy under  Narendra Modi is facing strong criticism as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East. Analysts and international observers say India’s diplomatic stance has raised serious questions, especially regarding its position between Iran and Israel.

A recent report by the British publication Middle East Eye has highlighted what it calls contradictions in India’s foreign policy during the ongoing regional conflict.

According to the report, India has long claimed to maintain friendly relations with Iran. However, recent diplomatic actions suggest that New Delhi has moved closer to Israel.

The publication questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Israel just two days before the war with Iran began. Analysts say the timing of the visit has raised serious concerns about India’s diplomatic priorities.

The report also noted that India took several days before responding to the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to the article, the Indian government did not immediately issue even a short condolence message for the Iranian people.

This delay has drawn criticism from analysts who believe India should have responded more quickly given its long-standing relations with Iran.

The British publication also reported that an Iranian naval vessel visiting India was targeted during the conflict, which some observers described as a diplomatic embarrassment.

According to defense analysts quoted in the report, the incident raised questions about India’s ability to maintain balanced relations in a sensitive geopolitical environment.

Experts say this is not the first time India’s actions have strained relations with Iran.

They pointed to India’s earlier decision to withdraw from parts of the development work at the Chabahar Port project in Iran as an example of changing priorities in India’s regional strategy.

Observers believe these developments have fueled debate about whether India’s foreign policy is shifting away from traditional partnerships.

Political analysts say the situation has sparked wider discussion about India’s diplomatic direction.

Many believe New Delhi now faces the challenge of maintaining balanced relations with different countries while protecting its long-term strategic and economic interests.
