U.S. Spent $5.6 Billion on Munitions in First Two Days of Iran Strikes

10 March, 2026 22:39

The Trump administration has reported that it used $5.6 billion in munitions during the first two days of strikes against Iran, according to a source familiar with information provided to U.S. congressional committees on Tuesday.

Members of Congress, who may soon be asked to approve additional war funding, have expressed concern that the Iran conflict could rapidly deplete U.S. military stocks, particularly as the defense industry struggles to keep pace with rising demand.

President Donald Trump met executives from seven major defense contractors on Friday while the Pentagon worked to replenish munitions and other military supplies.

The administration has not issued a public estimate of the overall cost of the conflict, which began on February 28 alongside allied strikes by Israel. Congressional leaders have requested more transparency, including public testimony from officials on how the conflict might impact the U.S. military’s readiness to defend the country.

Several congressional aides said they expect the White House to submit a formal request for additional war funding soon. Some estimates suggest the request could reach $50 billion, though others believe that figure may be underestimated.

These developments highlight mounting concerns in Washington over the financial and logistical toll of the Iran conflict on the U.S. defense apparatus.
