White House Area Temporarily Shut Down After Van Breaches Security Barricade

A van drove through a security barricade near the White House early Wednesday, prompting a temporary closure of the surrounding area in downtown Washington during morning rush hour.

Authorities confirmed that the driver was taken into custody and no injuries were reported following the pre-dawn incident at Lafayette Square, just north of the White House.

A US Secret Service spokesperson said that a police bomb squad inspected the vehicle and cleared the scene, declaring it safe. “The individual is currently being interviewed by the Secret Service and criminal charges are pending,” the spokesperson added.

The incident occurred amid heightened security in Washington due to the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran.
