North Korea Fires Multiple Suspected Ballistic Missiles Off East Coast
North Korea fired at least ten suspected ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast on March 14, South Korean officials reported. The Japan Coast Guard also noted a possible missile launch, adding that the projectiles likely fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
The missile tests come amid heightened regional tensions following joint military drills by South Korea and the United States. Recent discussions on reopening dialogue with Pyongyang took place in Washington between South Korean officials and former US President Donald Trump, though US–North Korea negotiations have been stalled since 2019.
Japan’s Prime Minister’s office confirmed the missile activity, stating that “immediate safety measures have been ordered for aircraft, vessels, and other assets.” The office also pledged to maintain transparent communication with the public regarding contingencies and safety precautions.
