PIA Flight Narrowly Avoids Missile Attack During Landing at Fujairah Airport

17 March, 2026 21:13

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight narrowly escaped danger when a missile attack occurred near the naval headquarters adjacent to Fujairah Airport during landing.

Flight PK-175 safely touched down at 6:00 a.m. carrying 123 passengers and 8 crew members. Smoke from the nearby missile strike briefly enveloped the area, causing panic among passengers and crew.

Both PIA flights PK-173 and PK-175 had arrived from Islamabad to Fujairah Airport. The situation remained under control, though some delays were reported for returning flights.

According to a PIA spokesperson, both aircraft safely returned to Lahore and Islamabad without any injuries.

Earlier, PIA was granted permission to operate two daily flights to the United Arab Emirates amid the escalating security situation in the Middle East, including one daily flight to Dubai and another to Abu Dhabi.

Flights to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, which had recently resumed, were temporarily suspended following a missile attack on Bahrain, though operations to Jeddah, Riyadh, and Medina continue using routes over the Arabian Sea and through Yemen.

Meanwhile, PIA flights bound for Europe and Canada are facing disruptions due to the closure of Iranian airspace, with aircraft being rerouted through Afghanistan’s Wakhan corridor to reach their destinations.

The regional conflict has also caused widespread disruption to global air travel. Key airports in the Middle East, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, have been closed or severely restricted following U.S. and Israeli strikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The disruptions have affected tens of thousands of passengers worldwide, with stranded travelers reported as far away as Bali, Kathmandu, and Frankfurt.
