Donald Trump denies US role in Israeli South Pars strike

19 March, 2026 09:30

WASHINGTON – March 19, 2026: US President Donald Trump has denied any American involvement in the Israeli strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field. He said the United States had no prior knowledge of the attack. He also claimed that Qatar was not informed either.

The statement comes as tensions grow in the Middle East. Energy infrastructure has become a major target in the ongoing conflict.

Israeli Strike Hits Iran’s Largest Gas Facility

Iranian media reported that phases 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the South Pars Gas Field were hit. This is one of the world’s largest natural gas fields.

Israeli officials confirmed the attack. They said the target was a major gas processing facility in Bushehr Province.

Iran also reported strikes in Asaluyeh, forcing several gas production units offline. This has raised serious concerns about energy supply.

Gas Prices Jump After Attack

The strike quickly affected global markets. European gas prices jumped by 6%, crossing $650 per 1,000 cubic meters for the first time since March 9.

The attack has added pressure to an already unstable energy market. Experts fear further disruptions if tensions continue.

Trump Speaks Out on Truth Social

Donald Trump shared his reaction on his Truth Social platform. He said the US had no role in the strike and was not informed in advance.

He described the attack as limited but warned Iran against targeting energy sites in Qatar. He called Iran’s response “unfair and unjustified.”

Trump also issued a strong warning. He said the US could take severe action if Qatari energy facilities are attacked again.

“I don’t want that level of destruction,” Trump said. “But we will act if needed.”

Strategic Importance of South Pars

The South Pars field is the largest natural gas field in the world. It is shared by Iran and Qatar.

The recent strike shows a major escalation in the region’s energy conflict. Since February 28, Iran has been targeting US-linked sites in Gulf countries.

At the same time, global oil prices have surged. Brent crude oil has risen over 40%, staying above $100 per barrel.

Conflicting Reports Raise Questions

Despite Trump’s denial, some reports suggest the US may have known about the attack.

According to the Associated Press, a source said Washington had prior knowledge but did not take part directly.

Meanwhile, journalist Barak Ravid reported that US and Israeli officials confirmed coordination. The goal was to increase pressure on Iran.

Iran’s Oil Ministry has blamed both the US and Israel for the strikes. Officials say parts of the energy infrastructure were damaged.

Risk of Further Escalation

The situation remains tense. Attacks on energy facilities could lead to a wider regional crisis.

Markets are already reacting. Any further escalation may impact global oil and gas supply.

World leaders are now watching closely as the conflict enters a dangerous phase.
