Helicopter Crash in Qatar Claims Lives of Four Qataris and Three Turks

22 March, 2026 14:45

Qatar confirmed on Sunday that four of its military personnel and three Turkish nationals, including one serviceman, were killed in a helicopter crash in Qatari territorial waters.

The country’s interior ministry announced that rescue operations were completed and the final seventh individual was confirmed dead.

“All those who were on board have been found, numbering seven, and their martyrdom has been confirmed,” the statement said.

Qatar’s defence ministry identified the Qatari victims as Captain Mubarak Salem Daway al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem al-Khayarin, Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed, and Captain Saeed Nasser Sameekh. The Turkish nationals killed included Major Sinan Tastekin from the Qatar-Turkiye Joint Forces and two Turkish civilians, Suleiman Cemra Kahraman and Ismail Anas.

These are the first recorded fatalities from either country since the US and Israel conducted strikes on Iran on February 28, followed by Iran’s retaliatory air campaign against Gulf nations.

The Turkish defence ministry said: “A Qatari armed forces helicopter, which was carrying out a training exercise as part of the Qatar-Turkiye Joint Forces Command, crashed into the sea.”

They added, “A member of the Turkish armed forces and two Aselsan technicians” were killed in the crash, referring to the Turkish defence company.

Earlier, Qatar’s defence ministry attributed the incident to a “technical malfunction” during a routine flight.
