Trump’s disapproval rating hits 59% during Iran conflict: Poll
US President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has reached 59 percent, the highest in either of his two terms, a new poll shows. The rise comes as anti-war sentiment grows across the United States over Washington’s “unprovoked war of aggression on Iran.”
A Fox News poll released on Wednesday found that nearly 60 percent of Americans dislike Trump’s performance. According to the survey, 59 percent of respondents said they disapprove of Trump as president, with 47 percent saying they “strongly disapprove.” Only 41 percent of Americans approve of his performance.
The poll highlighted that Trump’s war on Iran and its negative impact on the US economy are the main reasons his popularity has fallen. It showed that only 42 percent of Americans support the ongoing war, while just 28 percent of independents back the aggression.
Earlier, a Reuters poll reported an even lower approval rating of 36 percent for the 47th president of the United States.
Since February 28, a US-Israeli military coalition has waged an “unprovoked war of aggression on Iran,” killing Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, several senior officials, military commanders, and many civilians.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have launched retaliatory operations, targeting US bases in the region and Israeli positions in the occupied territories with waves of ballistic missile strikes and drone attacks.
Anti-war sentiment is growing in the US as the Trump administration has failed to justify the war. Officials mainly cite the alleged nuclear threat from Iran, but this conflicts with Trump’s claim that he “totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program by striking its main facilities at the end of the 12-day war in June last year.
The current war has also raised fuel prices worldwide, including in the US, as Iran’s Armed Forces control the strategic Strait of Hormuz, making it almost impassable for tankers belonging to the aggressors or their supporters.
