Iran Urges UN to Condemn US-Israel Assassination Plots Against Top Officials
TEHRAN, March 27, 2026: Iran has formally approached the United Nations, raising alarm over media reports that claim the United States and Israel are planning assassination attempts on senior Iranian officials. Tehran has described these plans as “state terrorism” and a serious violation of international law.
Iran Writes to UN Leadership
In an official letter sent on Thursday, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, addressed Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council. He highlighted reports suggesting that top Iranian leaders, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, have been identified as targets.
The letter warned that even if such plans are paused, the threat still remains active and dangerous. Iran called on the UN Security Council to take immediate notice of the situation.
“Violation of International Law”
Iran stressed that targeting high-ranking officials of a sovereign country would be a clear breach of international law. The ambassador stated that such actions would violate the UN Charter, human rights laws, and basic diplomatic norms.
He also pointed out that foreign ministers enjoy full immunity under international law, and any attack on them could damage global diplomatic relations.
Iran linked the reported threats to the ongoing tensions that escalated on February 28. According to Iranian claims, earlier attacks and assassinations have already caused major losses, including civilian casualties.
Tehran described the situation as part of a broader campaign that it believes threatens regional peace and stability.
In separate letters, Iran also raised concerns about Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Tehran accused these countries of allowing their territory and airspace to be used for attacks against Iran.
Iran warned that countries facilitating such actions could also bear international responsibility. It urged these states to stop any involvement and respect regional peace principles.
Iran made it clear that it reserves the right to defend itself. Officials stated that Tehran would take “necessary and appropriate measures” to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity if threats continue.
The situation highlights growing tensions in the Middle East. Iran’s appeal to the UN shows the seriousness of the matter and its potential impact on international peace.
Experts believe that any escalation involving major powers could further destabilize the region. The UN Security Council’s response will be closely watched in the coming days.
