IRGC Commander Says US Violations Worsen Global Crisis
A top Iranian military officer warns that breaches of international law are escalating global crises, especially in the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, and claims that the United States has failed to meet its declared goals in the war against Iran.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander-in-chief’s adviser, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, stated in a TV interview that Washington had misjudged its strategy regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He cited a notable discrepancy between US aspirations and results, saying, “While the Americans thought they could destroy Iran, they are now seeking to achieve very basic goals.”
Fadavi pointed out that the Persian Gulf region’s geopolitical significance has increased due to recent changes in the global petroleum industry, the closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, and increased military activity.
He added that the Strait of Hormuz is essential to the international economy and that “people around the world have been deprived due to the follies of the ‘Great Satan.”
He emphasized that as natural gas develops as a major energy option, the Strait of Hormuz, which has long been seen as an essential conduit for international oil imports, has become even more crucial.
“The Strait of Hormuz plays an essential role in the global economy. In the past, only oil was the focus of this region’s importance, but now gas has been added to it,” he stated.
Fadavi highlighted regional energy dynamics by pointing out that Iran and Qatar are among the world’s biggest natural gas resource holders, making them key participants in the changing global energy market.
Citing Western analysts who have admitted the US failure, Fadavi also condemned the US for pursuing military measures that go against accepted international conventions and added that Washington has failed to achieve its objectives in a timely manner.
He quickly added that, in violation of international law, US military aggression had targeted Iran’s civilian facilities, including hospitals and schools.
He cited an incident in Minab, saying, “The school visited by foreign journalists yesterday is an example of such actions; a place where 170 male and female students were targeted by modern American missiles, even though this location was merely a school.”
According to Fadavi, “hundreds of other schools” were also harmed by the ongoing violence throughout the nation, hence the occurrence was not unique.
The international legal frameworks said that require the protection of civilian sites during times of war, he described such acts as war crimes.
“These actions have not only created more problems but have also left this country with a notorious record of violating international law, even though America has not achieved its goals,” the IRGC commander said.
His comments coincide with the one-month mark of the war of aggression against Iran, which began on February 28 with the assassinations of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, and several senior military leaders.
