Iran Says 5 American Jets and Helicopters Downed

04 April, 2026 14:07

Five U.S. military fighter jets and helicopters have been shot down today by Iran according to reports. Indeed, this, my friends, represents a definite turning point in what can be described as a war of choice being waged against Iran by the Trump/Netanyahu administrations.

These downed aircraft consist of advanced jets and helicopters indicating an active and successful challenge of U.S. airpower on multiple fronts. This isn’t about archaic systems taking out stray targets – no, this is:

State-of-the-art aircraft that were tracked and engaged.

Helicopters engaging even while involved in rescue missions and providing support.

An airspace wherein American air movement is now contested rather than uncontested.

This flies completely in the face of the notion of American air superiority which isn’t some concept but rather a condition. Superiority in the air requires uncontested airspace whereas the above scenario represents anything but superiority.

That raises the question of what happens now with the war of choice being promoted by Donald Trump? When the skies can no longer be considered safe, the whole operation becomes compromised. The element of close air support becomes impossible, evacuation becomes dangerous (based on recent operations carried out by the Israelis in South Lebanon), and supply lines open up as targets.

Donald Trump simply cannot risk putting his troops on the ground when he has lost his dominance of the skies. It provides a cautionary message that an operation intended to be quick and decisive is turning into something else – messy and complex.

  • Confirmed Losses: U.S. officials have confirmed the downing of one F-15E Strike Eagle over western Iran and one A-10 Thunderbolt II over the Persian Gulf.
  • Search and Rescue: Reports indicate that at least one Black Hawk helicopter involved in the search-and-rescue (CSAR) mission for the F-15E crew was struck by Iranian fire, though it reportedly managed to land or remain operational rather than being “downed” in the traditional sense.
  • Casualties: One F-15E crew member was rescued, while a search continues for the second. The A-10 pilot was also successfully recovered.

The situation remains fluid, and while Iran’s state media (IRIB/Fars) has claimed higher numbers, international monitors currently verify two fixed-wing combat losses and damage to rotary-wing assets.
