Iran Advisor Warns US of Major Global Energy and Trade Disruptions Over “Foolish” Moves

05 April, 2026 19:42

A senior Iranian official has warned that a single misstep by the United States or Israel could severely disrupt global energy flows and international trade.

Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, stated on Sunday that the unified command of the Resistance Front views the Bab el-Mandeb Strait as equally strategic as the Strait of Hormuz.

Velayati emphasized, “If the White House dares to repeat its foolish mistakes, it will soon realize that the flow of global energy and trade can be disrupted with a single move.” He added that while the US has learned certain lessons from Iran’s history, it “has yet to understand the geography of power.”

Referencing ancient Persia under Darius the Great, Velayati noted that the region achieved major engineering feats, such as connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, long before Anglo-Saxon civilizations had advanced development.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions in key maritime corridors. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20 percent of global oil passes, has already put enormous pressure on adversaries. The Islamic Republic has hinted at the possibility of further action, including potential disruption of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, another critical global shipping chokepoint.

Reports indicate that hundreds of ships remain anchored due to security concerns, while shipping companies and oil exporters have paused operations. Meanwhile, US President Trump has renewed threats to strike Iran’s infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, warning of destruction to power plants and bridges.
