US Lawmakers Condemn Donald Trump Over ‘Dangerous’ Iran Threats, Raise Concerns Over Stability and War Risks

06 April, 2026 10:36

Several prominent US political figures have strongly criticized Donald Trump following his controversial threats directed at Iran, warning that his rhetoric could escalate tensions and endanger American interests.

Trump recently warned that the United States could target Iran’s critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz. “There will be nothing like it!!!” he wrote, using unusually aggressive language that drew widespread backlash.

Critics across the political spectrum described the remarks as reckless and alarming. Marjorie Taylor Greene, once considered a political ally of Trump, issued a sharp rebuke, accusing him of escalating conflict and causing unnecessary harm.

She wrote, “I know all of you and him, and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit… This is not making America great again, this is evil.” She further urged officials to intervene, stating that continued support for such actions could lead to devastating consequences.

Chuck Schumer also condemned the remarks, calling them those of “an unhinged madman” and warning that such statements could damage US credibility globally.

He posted, “As you celebrate with your families, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman… threatening possible war crimes,” describing the comments as “rambling, disjointed, and pathetic.”

Similarly, Bernie Sanders labeled Trump’s statements as “dangerous and mentally unbalanced,” urging Congress to take immediate action to prevent further escalation.

Calls for stronger constitutional measures also emerged. Chris Murphy suggested that the situation could warrant consideration of the 25th Amendment, which outlines procedures for addressing presidential incapacity.

Other lawmakers, including Melanie Stansbury, echoed similar concerns, urging Congress and the administration to act decisively.

Meanwhile, Ro Khanna warned that such rhetoric increases risks to US troops stationed in the region, while Tim Kaine called the remarks “embarrassing and juvenile.”

Jake Auchincloss pointed to broader strategic challenges, noting that Iran maintains leverage through its control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route.

Additionally, Elissa Slotkin cautioned that threats targeting civilian infrastructure could violate international law, including the Geneva Conventions.

“It is both irresponsible and wrong to indiscriminately kill civilians in Iran and destroy civilian infrastructure.”

The growing criticism highlights deep concerns within Washington over the potential consequences of escalating rhetoric, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
