Iran Urges UN Action After Trump Admits Attempting to Arm Terrorists

07 April, 2026 09:02

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has demanded that the UN Security Council take swift action following President Donald Trump’s admission that the United States tried to arm terrorists inside Iran. Iravani called Trump’s remarks a clear confirmation of U.S. efforts to incite violence and bloodshed.

In a letter addressed to the UN secretary-general and the Security Council, Iravani stated that Washington attempted to transform peaceful protests in Iran into violent unrest. Reacting to Trump’s acknowledgment, Iravani said:
“We sent guns, a lot of guns. They were supposed to go to the people so they could fight back against these thugs,” Trump said at a White House Easter event.
“You know what happened? The people that they sent them to kept them,” he added, later blaming “Kurdish intermediaries” for diverting the arms.

Iravani described the U.S. actions as a “flagrant violation of the UN Charter” and emphasized that the United States has a long-standing history of arming terrorist groups in the Middle East. He stated that the Security Council must condemn these statements and ensure that any state support for terrorism is addressed.

The Iranian UN ambassador highlighted that Washington bears full responsibility for losses and civilian suffering during the December 2025 and January 2026 unrest in Iran. Around 3,000 individuals linked to terrorist groups were arrested in connection with the riots, which followed coordinated attacks on police stations, government buildings, and public infrastructure.

Former CIA director Mike Pompeo also confirmed in an interview that U.S. and Israeli involvement played a direct role in these events, further validating Iran’s claims of foreign interference.

Iravani urged the international community to recognize that arming terrorist groups triggers legal responsibility and demanded the UN declare that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
