Pakistan’s Efforts to Stop Iran War Reach ‘Critical Stage’: Iran Ambassador
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, has stated that Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts to halt the ongoing conflict involving Iran have entered a “critical” and sensitive phase.
In a statement shared on X, the envoy praised Pakistan’s “positive and productive endeavours in goodwill and good offices” aimed at de-escalating tensions. He added, “Stay tuned for more,” signaling possible developments in mediation efforts.
The remarks came just hours before a deadline set by Donald Trump, urging Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to global shipping or risk potential attacks on critical infrastructure.
According to IRNA, Tehran has already conveyed its response to a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the war. While the details were not disclosed, reports indicate that Iran has rejected a ceasefire, emphasizing the need for a definitive end to hostilities.
The conflict, now stretching beyond five weeks, began after joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran restricted access to the Strait of Hormuz and launched missile attacks across the region. Multiple countries have since stepped in to mediate and prevent further escalation.
Iran’s reported conditions for peace include ending regional conflicts, ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, and the lifting of international sanctions. Additional reports suggest Tehran is also seeking guarantees against future attacks and a halt to Israeli operations against allied groups in the region.
Under a proposed framework cited by international media, Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz while charging approximately $2 million per vessel, potentially sharing the revenue with Oman. The funds would reportedly be used to rebuild infrastructure affected by recent strikes.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, Pakistan’s role as a mediator is drawing increasing global attention, with the coming days expected to be crucial in determining whether tensions can be eased or further escalation is imminent.
